House Minority to probe alleged P100-M Palace bribe
Date Posted: 13 February 2012 0 CommentsMembers of the minority bloc in the House of Representatives said they plan to file a resolution that will look into the alleged P100-million bribe offer by a Malacañang official, purportedly Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa, to each Senator-Judge in the Corona impeachment trial to convict Chief Justice Renato Corona.
The allegation was made by defense lawyers during a press conference Sunday night.
House Minority leader Danilo Suarez said that lawmakers cannot just ignore the claim raised by the impeachment defense panel, especially that public funds are involved.
"Both sides must clear their side. The Executive [department] should also come up with their own explanation," Suarez notes.
Meanwhile, the minority bloc also said they have officially received the request of a certain Danilo Lihaylihay asking them to endorse an impeachment case against President Benigno Aquino III.
Suarez disclosed that the President, through Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa, approved the sale of a property in Baguio City -- the Old Pines Hotel __ for only P60 to 70 million when the actual market value of the property is pegged as high as P1.7 billion.
He added that the minority will discuss in their weekly meeting the request of Lihaylihay. "We will still study the case carefully. It will be crafted accordingly," he noted.
Majority Leader Neptali Gonzales II countered, however, the minority will have a difficult time obtaining the required number of votes to push the impeachment complaint against President Aquino through the plenary.
