Ombudsman dismisses complaint on House prosecutors SALN
Date Posted: 15 February 2012 0 CommentsThe Office of the Ombudsman said Wednesday that it is dismissing a complaint seeking investigation of the alleged non-disclosure of Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net worth of the prosecutors and the senator-judges in the Corona impeachment trial.
Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales put closure to the request for investigation filed by lawyer Oliver Lozano on alleged ill-gotten wealth and non-disclosure of SALN of all the complainants, prosecutors and their spokesmen and the senator-judges due to insufficiency of evidence.
Furthermore, Carpio-Morales said, her office has dismissed an impeachment case filed before the Ombudsman against the prosecutors due to the issue of jurisdiction. Under the 1987 constitution, it is the House of Representatives that shall have exclusive power to initiate all cases of impeachment, with the Senate having the sole power to try and decide all cases of impeachment.
